any short cruise ship stories?

any short cruise ship stories?
Well, I could tell you about the cruise before I started my 5 day cruise. The boat hosted a "short cruise" or "weekend cruise" the drunk dummies that were in the room we booked put a flame to the fire sprinkler and flooded that room and 3 other rooms on each side of it!
Because of the inconvenience, we got free pics and drinks the whole trip. And beach towels, champagne, fruit baskets, and a free tour on one of the stops!

Any one stayed at Club Land'Or in the Bahamas? It is on Paridise Island?

Can you tell me a little about it? Walking distance to anything? How far is the beach? Any suggestions on what to see?
Any one stayed at Club Land'Or in the Bahamas? It is on Paridise Island?
The Bahamas have a fantastic water resort with a pyramid that has a huge waterfall and aquariums everywhere. I went there but just cannot remember the name of it. Fantastic!

Atlantis Paradise Island is a large resort and casino located at 25.084, -77.322 on Paradise Island, in Nassau, Bahamas. It was built by Sol Kerzner and is currently undergoing a new construction phase to introduce an all-suites building, condominiums in the form of a condo-hotel, and new water slides. The hotel is the tallest building in the Bahamas. Kerzner International, Sol Kerzner's hotel operations company, is the largest in his native South Africa. Due to the extreme success of the Atlantis hotel on Paradise Island, Kerzner and his team have decided to open a second Atlantis in the city of Dubai.

I stayed at the Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahama's. It is a very beautiful resort, with all kinds of activities for kids and adults alike. They have many fine restaurants, swimming pools, lazy river (you float down with an inter-tube), a beautiful beach with every activity you can think of. A huge casino, a huge aquarium that you are aloud to walk through a huge plastic tube, and see the sea creatures from there perspective. A huge water slid for adults and kids, looks like a Egyptian pyramid that you slid down into a pool. Many excursions and you can get a cab to some of the local restaurants and night clubs if you want. Would recommend it to anyone. It can be a little pricey though.

  • Any one live in St. Thomas USVI?

If u do, were you born there? If not, when did u move there?
Any one live in St. Thomas USVI?
I moved to St. Thomas from Cleveland three years ago. I love it here and it was the best thing i've done for my self personally and professionally. I like it mostly because I haven't seen snow in three years. After living through 25 Cleveland winters, this has been the perfect escape for me. For those who wish to move here from the states, I would reccommend it for almost anyone except for people with pre teens or teenagers because there's not alot of activities for them as the beach will eventually become "boring" over time. Statesiders of all ages live and work here. Everyone from Children to young adults to baby boomers to retirees. Also, I have felt accepted by the locals from the moment I stepped off the plane; mostly because they know people like me from the states are needed here to provide the tourists (which is the basis of our economy) with the level of service they would expect in the states.
Any one live in St. Thomas USVI?
Born & raised here, and love it. Parents moved here in the early 70s, and we've all been here ever since. I love it when people move here because they love the lifestyle and the island, but it annoys me when people come here for like 6 months just to "party" and don't add anything to the community. But I am all for people living the great escape.

http://www.princess.com/ You want to make sure you pack clothes for the chilly night weather, pack dramamine for sea sickness, be prepared for long waits boarding and unboarding the ship. Once online its like a floating city with so much to do you wont know where to start. Good choice in vacations! Have a blast !

There is a jewish community in the province of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. I have not verified that there are, but my guess is that because there is a sinagogue there, there should be kosher food available close by.

I wouldn't go to Freeport on Grand Bahama. I went there last year and the people are mean. Especially don't go to the all inclusive resort there.Wyndham Fortuna Beach. The rooms were horrible, the food was worse and the service sucked. From what I hear there is much more touristy things on Nassau and there are great beaches and bars and they cater more towards visitors.

I absolutely loved St. Lucia in the Virgin Islands. I stayed at the Royal St Lucian Hotel which is right on the beach and the view was amazing. Make sure u get a beach front room it is well worth the price. The staff there is amazing and the people on the island are some of the friendliest I have ever seen. I much prefer this hotel over Sandals. They also offer all inclusive rates but I much prefer to dine out in local restaurants and check out all the island has to offer. Wherever you choose I hope that you have a great honeymoon and a long and happy life together.
Paris, any Carribean island, Greece (Mykonos and Santorini), Hawaii, Frech Polynesia (Moorea, Tahiti and Bora Bora).
Hawaii or Jamaica. BEen there, done that. It was really fun in Jamaica. It is justa like those postcards- torquoise water, palm trees with a hammock in between, white sands. BEAUTIFUL.
We just returned from St. Lucia. We stayed at the Sandals Halcyon and had a wonderful time. Laid back, smaller resort. Staff was wonderful!
If looking at the VI, I would highly highly recommend St. John. One of the most beautiful beaches I`ve ever been to (and I live in Costa Rica).

Rent a dingy for the day, pack your lunch, and explore all the awesome sites in the island. Scuba or snorkle are fantastic!

Check out this hotel, AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!

Cricket fans regionally and internationally should be able to purchase tickets for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 from next April, ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 has announced.

Noting that the ticketing policy is a complex issue which has to mesh the needs of several stakeholders, both within and beyond the Caribbean, he said the full ticketing programme will be made public at a Press Conference next month.

Any cheap lodging on St.John's island in july/aug?
The island of St. John is extremely expensive as far as Caribbean destinations go. While you should be able to find accomodations for a much better price during the summer months, they may still break your budget.

If you can forgo luxury and don't mind a camping sort of experience. Definitely look into Maho Bay or Cinnamon Bay campgrounds.

Any advice on inexpensive restaurants in Providenciales, Turks & Caicos?

going to turks and caicos, family of 4, and of course eating on an island is expensive

I know how to snack in the room, but can you suggest good places to eat, that dont' cost $50 per person or more.
Any advice on inexpensive restaurants in Providenciales, Turks & Caicos?
I used to live there, and I can tell you the places that were there when I lived there, and hopefully they'restill open! :)
Banana Boat-Very inexpensive, burgers, fish, conch (pronounced CONK), etc.
Hey Jose- a mexican themed restaurant that really serves everything from pizza to burgers.
Top O' the Cove Deli- I know the people who run the place, they're good for cheap sandwhich style lunches and pastry breakfasts. (They are off the main road, connected to NAPA auto parts.
There was a place called "Dora's"- a very local restarant good only for Take-out, but about as authentic of an island meal as you will find, and EXTREMELY cheap.

Stay away from: The Gecko Grill, Alfred's, and any place in Grace Bay if you want cheap prices! :)

Lastly, I know it is expensive, but when I lived there, $30 bucks per person will buy you admission to the buffet dinner at Club Med, which includes dessert and drinks, and you can stay for the show afterwards. They usually had a theme for the meals (Italian, Mexican, etc) and were very good.

    Hope that helps.

Any advice for first time travelers to Punta Cana (in January)?

Any advice for first time travelers to Punta Cana (in January)?
If you are visiting from the US make sure you have a passport in order to be let back into the US. starting Dec. 31, one is required.

The weather is generally very good, the temperature is in the top 70s/low 80s. Most years it is not raining, and if it does, it only lasts a day or two.

Make sure that you bring sun block, at least one pair of slacks (some hotels, even all included, require slacks/pants for some of their nicer restaurants), and a good attitude.

Any advice about my next trip to Lawrence Gap Barbados?

Any advice about my next trip to Lawrence Gap Barbados?
If you are staying within the gap, hopefully you dont mind music playing throughout the night. The gap is the hub of Barbados nightlife. There is McBrides, The Afterdark, The Ship Inn, Reggae Lounge, and a host of restuarants. The main road is close by, as is the beach, so if you are looking to do some exploring outside of the Gap, you can do so quite easily. Most shopping is in town, about 15 mins away, but there is a Cave Shepard within a 10 minute walk away which has a selection of music, liquor, cologne and souveniers. There are other bars and restaurants on the main road going towards Worthing that you can walk to. If you enjoy eating fish, Oistins is also a short drive away (via taxi or mini van). Good luck & enjoy. I love staying on the South Coast as well.

Any recommened stops in San Juan Puerto Rico?
It depends on how much time are you willing to spend in San Juan. If you are in the airport the best option is taking a taxi to Old San Juan (15 mins). Once there everything is in walking distance; you can visit El Morro and San Cristobal Forts, take a ferry in pier 1 ($0.50) to Bacardi Rum Distillery they give free samples :), enjoy the enchanting environment of the Old San Juan, our food, our people, and it is gorgeous. You can do that with at least 4 hrs. If you have more time El Yunque is a unique experience. You will need to take a taxi or rent car and drive 40 - 50 mins, once there you can hike all the way to the top or down to La Mina Falls and take a dip. You will need 6 hours to be safe! Antigua -should I hire a car or take taxis when I'm there on holiday?
Cabs are a rip off. Depending on where you are staying, renting a car is almost definatly cheaper. If you are staying at a resort, choose what day or days you want to travel around and rent on those days. Also, use Hertz or Dollar. A sedan for a day is US $35, and a little SUV is $50. The roads are bad in plenty of spots, but the sedan gets by just fine. Have fun! Feel free to email me with any other questions

Antigua or Barbados - which island is more exclusive?

I'm having a bit of a debate with some one about this. I know which Caribbean island I consider to be the more exclusive out of the two in terms of celebrities visiting, expensive to stay there, etc but I'd just like to know if my own opinion is confirmed.

I do know that there are far more exclusive Caribbean islands like St Barts, the Caymnas, Bahamas, turks and Caicos, etc but I just wanted to know specifically about your opinions on Anitgua or Barbados.
    thanks!!

Antiqua if your looking for something a little more quiet. alot less american and British tourists than barbados more ethinic and natural
    Antigua hands down.
By far Antigua is the most exclusive. It offers many options such as day trips to Montserrat.
Well I've never been to Antigua, but Barbados has a very wealthy area with hotels that are strictly for those with money. Tiger Woods got married at Barbados' Sandy Lane Hotel. Simon Cowell (American Idol) is spotted there on occassion for holiday. Mariah Carey has spent New Years there.numerous musicians visit for both holiday as well as performances (check Barbados during Jazz Festival). The exchange rate in Barbados would also make for an expensive trip.

    American Travel to Cuba?

I have dual citizenship (American / Italian). Italians flock to Cuba in the thousands, but there are legal restrictions against Americans visiting Cuba. If I were to visit Cuba this summer without permission, what are my chances of ever being caught by the US Government, and what would the penalty be?
    American Travel to Cuba?
You would have to travel to Cuba from Italy using your Italian passport and have your Italian passport stamped.
But due to the laws restricting Americans I heard Cuba does not stamp American passports so I am sure you could visit if you flew from the US to Mexico and then to Cuba without a problem.

Haha and Americans think they are free?
Tell that to Europeans and they will laugh!
    American Travel to Cuba?
You can't there directly from the US, otherwise you should have no problems until your return when big brother might watch you for quite a while.

The embargo is enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets COntrol(OFAC) Accoding to thier site, all "U.S. persons", citzens and permienant resident aliens have to comply with the restrictions, no matter where they are. Will you be less likley to be caught traveling from Italy or elsewhere than from the U.S.? Perhaps, unless U.S. authorities see the cuban visa stamp when you return to the states.

It's a pretty nice island. I've been there a few years ago. I plan to go there later this year and reaquint myself. I have a few friends there as well. There are 365 beaches, one for every day of the year! Lots of nice places to stay and eat. They use the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD), so 1 US dollar is equal to 2.7EC$

All inclusive trips. out of Boston ?

We want to take a quick 3 night trip not far from Boston. WE really want a warm beachy place that will be warm enough to lay buy the pool in November. I want to sit and read and my husband would love a casino. Any recommndations? What do you think about all inclusives? I would love the name of specific hotels! Let me know if you have actually been there or have a friend that has been there!

We are NOT wealthy people- therefore do not have expensive tastes nor do we have money for an expensive place- however, we don't want to stay at a dump!

    Please real-recomendations please!
All inclusive trips. out of Boston ?
I can recommend the Sheraton at Our Lucaya in Freeport, Bahamas. There is a casino on the property and they have an all-inclusive package. They have great pools on the property and it's right on the beach. I believe that they have pricing that includes airfare and transportation from the hotel to and from and airport in Freeport with US Air. To see more go to http://www.ourlucaya.com/reservations.asp
The weather in November will be very nice, but you could also go in October (and might get better pricing then as well).

    air plane travel?

Where can I get cheap flights? Does any one know any websites that are paricularly cheap?
    air plane travel?
your best bet is to book directly with whichever carrier you choose. first see if jetblue airways is in your area as they usually have really good deals. we go to www.travelocity.com and do a search for airfares, this site will list them by lowest price available, then we book directly with who is offering the lowest rate their rate will be cheaper and there are no hidden costs. one more thing, fares will get lower closer to your departure date.
    air plane travel?
    You could try www.skyscanner.com
    You could try www.skyscanner.com
    Airtran
    in the southwest.cheap tickets .com
You can search via the website of a particular airline if you know which one you want to fly. If not, you can try sites like orbitz.com and others like it.
    Kayak.com

After getting many mixed reviews on hotels in Punta Canta, which is the best hotel? (All Inclusive)?
Barcelo Bavaro Which has a variety of hotels but you can have access to 4 of 5 if you stay in one of the four. Beach, Caribe, Golf, and Casino. Then the pricey one of them all is The Palace. If you stay in the other four, for a small fee you can get access to the Palace. I was there last april. Absolutely loved it. The staff speak a variety of languages, they are very friendly and helpful.

Stayed at Sunscape Punta Cana Grand and loved it. Didn't need to wear wrist bands and everything is a short walk to get anywhere. Some of the resorts are so large they say you are exhausted walking from one place to another. Highly recommend this resort. Has a nice adult pool in the back of the complex along with a huge family pool. Great service and food. Have a good time wherever you go!

After a cruise why do I still feel the ship's motion?

After a cruise why do I still feel the ship's motion?
When you go on a ship's cruise you must gain your "sea legs." Often people get seasick until they do. We land lubbers are used to a stationary platform (the earth) to walk on and the balance mechanism within our inner ear (channels filled with fluid and tiny hairs that sense motion) is used to only compensating for our tendency to fall over while standing. At sea our balance mechanism must also get used to compensating for our tendency to fall over on a moving platform, especially one that cycles with large rolling waves. When the cruise is over and we are back on dry land, our brain has to re-learn that we are now on a stationary platform. For a while it still compensates for non-existing waves (so you won't fall over!).

About the Dolphin Cove in Ocho Rios, Jamaica: What's the difference between the foot push or dorsal pull?

Is either one worth the extra $80?
About the Dolphin Cove in Ocho Rios, Jamaica: What's the difference between the foot push or dorsal pull?
The dorsal pull is where you hold onto the fins of 2 dolphins and get pulled around the water. With the foot push, you lay in the water (stomach side down) and get pushed on your feet by the dolphins which propells you forward at speed.

This isn't something you'll be doing everyday so I would go for it. Money comes and goes but experiences stay for life.
About the Dolphin Cove in Ocho Rios, Jamaica: What's the difference between the foot push or dorsal pull?
Ocho Rios..LOL! What a pathetic place. If your a tourist you'll have more fun wearing a meat suit and jumping into a shark tank. Got back on the ship and asked one of the black dealers."why didn't you tell me that jamaicans were assholes"

Did the cheaper version with swimming with dolphins. Glad I didn't do the dorsal/fin thing. Watched several people getting a face full of water while trying to hold on to the dolphin. And on the nose push- if you lean just a little too far forward- well lets just say if you have ever held on to the rope behind a ski boat after you fell off the skis- same thing.

Yes. Puerto Rico is part of the United States. One needs a passport to enter the United States from Venezuela.
Yes. Puerto Rico is part of the United States. One needs a passport to enter the United States from Venezuela.
If you live in the US or any US Territory , then you can travel to Puerto Rico like you would to any other state.

Now, if you are coming from another place (or country) that is not part of the USA then of course, you must have a passport.

    Hope I answered your question.
    Yes you do.
If you are already a resident from the US then you can go to PR. Travelling from the US to PR is like going from one state to another (except PR is a Commonwealth, not a state). But yes, if you are a US resident already then you can travel to PR.
Yes you need a passport to travel to Puerto Rico, but if hes somming from the US then he can go easily.

7 day cruise exploreur of the sea?

is there a site with good deals ?
7 day cruise exploreur of the sea?
The best thing to do is check with some travel agencies. They get promotions all the time for cruises and can send you e-mails as they get them. Then, they can take care of you once you find them.

Just a word of caution. Be very careful if booking your cruise with sites like Expedia, Orbitz, etc. I have seen a lot of people have nightmares with these "online discounters" Just be aware, they are not travel agencies, they are just a booking engine. Online travel AGENCIES are great, but be very careful if you decide to book on your own.
7 day cruise exploreur of the sea?
Well, I'm guessing you are talking about the Explorer of the Seas, which is a Royal Carribean ship. I have sailed with them twice on the Mariner and had an amazing time. My best guess: If you don't want a travel agent's help, I would book online through RC's website. They will provide the most realistic help, and it is coming straight from the source, from people who know what they're talking about. Enjoy and have fun!

62 swf to travel alone, likely to beach. I have limited income no resorts Any idea?

Like a location with other things to do. I would like to swim with the dolphins, go whale watching, scuba dive and maybe parasail.
I could horseback ride into the mts.(if not too far, my derierre is 62 yro and hasn't a ride since like 1995. I just want to have fun.
62 swf to travel alone, likely to beach. I have limited income no resorts Any idea?
Well, if you are saying no resorts because of limited income, you have it wrong! The resorts in the Dominican Republic are awesome and very cheap compared to some other places in Mexico and the Caribbean. Also, a lot of the activities you mentioned are included in the price at the all-inclusive resorts. Try the Occidental Grand in Punta Cana.it's very inexpensive and has a wide varitey of restaurants and activies included in the price.
If you just prefer to not be in a resort for other reasons, I'd suggest looking at travelocity or expedia deals and see what you can get for your budget.you can search by the type of destination you want, as in beaches!

    5 Singles.1cruise.what to do?

I'm travelling on a cruise ship to St. Thomas, San Juan, and the Bahamas with limited time at each island with 4 guy friends of my BFs. What is the best things to do for a bunch of single guys and me (bars/ chilling on a beach/ gorgeous relaxing beaches) that is fairly close to the ports?
    5 Singles.1cruise.what to do?
In St. Thomas, go duty-free shopping in Charlotte Amalie (the port you land in) or head to Magens Bay for one of the best beaches out there (Its usually on some top 10 list in some travel magazine). When you land there, there'll be other ships in port and tons of cabs to take you to the beach. You can easily walk to the shopping. There's shops in the port istelf and some down the road in town. In any case, you can get cheap liquor and bring it back on the boat - so long as you dont get caught. If you do, they just hold it and give it back to you when you finish the cruise. Whats nice about St Thomas is you can take back more than the usual allowance thru customs. Its $1600 as opposed to the normal $800.

In San Juan, you've got Old San Juan (the fort and city within it), El Yunque (a road trip to a rainforest) or The Bacardi Tour (another road trip).

Not familiar with the Bahamas. Sorry
    5 Singles.1cruise.what to do?
    Why isn't your BF going?

Well there are usually a couple of clubs on the cruise ships, so hitting those up would be fun I'm sure. And other than that just look for events on the cruise to mingle with other singles for them.

    2 Qs about Punta Cana?

Is Punta Cana gay friendly? Im not a fan of PDA but it would be nice to be able to walk along the beach hand in hand w/ my g/f or even lay my head on her shoulder while sitting on the sand.

Also.about the alchool: I know their basics are rum and presidente beer. BUT I'm a mixed drink kind of girl; I like red deaths and malibu bay breezes--do they know how to make them? (i sure don't)

I also hear the drinks are really strong.how do i ask them not to make it so strong without them wanting to spit in my drink?

    :)

The more responses the better! THANKS SO MUCH

I always go to Allegro all inclusive in Punta. Of course it only costs me $65/night due to my membership, I find the liquor outside of the resort as spotty. I mean it depends where you go and you NEED to ask for top shelf stuff. Otherwise, you have no idea what they serve. Bring plenty of dollar bills and tip often but not over $1 per drink. Also Make sure you never go it alone! BRING A FRIEND OR FRIENDS YOU CAN TRUST.
But have fun but keep you eyes open!

$1000 for a week in the Dom. Rep.?

I'm meeting a friend in Santo Domingo--he's coming in from Lima, Peru so we can't exactly purchase a package deal. For those of you with DR experience, is $1000 enough for a week for one person? That will have to pay lodging, food, and souvenirs, etc. Thanks!
$1000 for a week in the Dom. Rep.?
Take at least $2000. You may bring back lots of change.but it is better to have cash just in case a problem arises.

Weather delays planes. It would suck to be stuck in the airport when you could get a hotel room.
$1000 for a week in the Dom. Rep.?
id take atleast 1500 for a week
id take atleast 1500 for a week
You can live the good life in the DR on $1,000/week.
You have two choice book an all inclusive in Punta Cana if that is what you are looking for, 2 go on a road trip around the Island. Check my other posts on the DR for more info on both.
Great place to go, have fun!
you might be on a safe side by doubling that.oh and by the way.read my answer from your question "should I meet him or not."I hope it works out good for you.keeping my fingers crossed.

    any short cruise ship stories?

    any short cruise ship stories?

Visit www.gotopuertorico.com for more detailed info. Enjoy Puerto Rico!

Antigua -should I hire a car or take taxis when I'm there on holiday?

Antigua -should I hire a car or take taxis when I'm there on holiday?
Cabs are a rip off. Depending on where you are staying, renting a car is almost definatly cheaper. If you are staying at a resort, choose what day or days you want to travel around and rent on those days. Also, use Hertz or Dollar. A sedan for a day is US $35, and a little SUV is $50. The roads are bad in plenty of spots, but the sedan gets by just fine. Have fun! Feel free to email me with any other questions
Antigua -should I hire a car or take taxis when I'm there on holiday?
If you are planning to enjoy the landscape and no stay more in one place, that I suggest to use a taxi company. I use www.infotaxi.org for finding taxi companies worldwide and their phone numbers.

I do know that there are far more exclusive Caribbean islands like St Barts, the Caymnas, Bahamas, turks and Caicos, etc but I just wanted to know specifically about your opinions on Anitgua or Barbados.
    thanks!!
Antigua or Barbados - which island is more exclusive?
Antigua is much more exclusive and expensive to visit. I have been to both.

The weather in November will be very nice, but you could also go in October (and might get better pricing then as well).

    air plane travel?
your best bet is to book directly with whichever carrier you choose. first see if jetblue airways is in your area as they usually have really good deals. we go to www.travelocity.com and do a search for airfares, this site will list them by lowest price available, then we book directly with who is offering the lowest rate their rate will be cheaper and there are no hidden costs. one more thing, fares will get lower closer to your departure date.

  • After getting many mixed reviews on hotels in Punta Canta, which is the best hotel? (All Inclusive)?

For a while it still compensates for non-existing waves (so you won't fall over!).

that happens a lot, kind of like when you get off an airplane you feel it for a few hours, don't worry, you will get back to your normal self, if it really bothers you and doesn't go away, ask a doctor what to do
